Our port today is:
 - A multi-profile commercial port for the transfer of general cargo, pulp, cardboard, lumber, metal, containers, heavy equipment, fertilizers and bulk cargo;
- Year-round port navigation, with ice conditions roughly corresponding to those of the Gulf of Finland;
- A powerful port infrastructure, capable of handling up to 4.5 million tonnes of cargo per year;
- The gates to the Arctic: it was from here that the Northern Sea Route was established, this being the shortest route for cargo transportation from Europe to South-East Asia, when compared with the traditional routes;
- The primary base for opening up the oil and natural gas deposits of the Arctic Shelf, and first and foremost, of the Barents and Kara Seas;
- A large and modern container terminal.
MAIN CHARACTERISTICS OF THE PORT
- Total port area - 97.5 hectares;
- Overall extent of the dock-front - 3,439 metres;
- Total covered storage area – 57,055 square metres;
- Total open paved area – 373,263 square metres;
- Total warehouse area – 2,000 square metres;
- Mooring berths permit the servicing of vessels with a draft of up to 9.2 metres and a length of 175 – 190 metres;
- The crane park consists of 50 units have lifting capacities from 5 to 40 tonnes, and a floating crane with a lifting capacity of up to 100 tonnes;
- The inventory of minor mechanized equipment consists of 86 loaders by manufacturers Kalmar, Valmet, Volvo and Hyster, having lifting capacities ranging between 1.5 and 25 tonnes;
- The port is serviced by three stations of the Northern Railroad, thus practically excluding the possibility of standing wagons.
